Results from the Qualifier at Henley GC on Wednesday 14th May 2008

Henley once again proved to be a wonderful venue for the Thames Valley qualifier, with the course in good condition and a wind to make scoring a challenge. Conditions were dry and mainly sunny, so it was set up for competitive golf. Competitors included Kris Chesney, Saracens current Captain and the former Scotland 2nd row, Alistair McHarg.

The player to hit the longest drive was John Wanklyn of Maidenhead RFC. Nearest the Pin was won by Lance Quantrill of London Scottish RFC. The top scoring pair were David Stirling and Anne Third of London Scottish RFC with a leading 44 points.

Third place on the day was taken by Tadley Team 2 RFC with 80 points. Second prize went to Marlow RFC with 82 points and the winners were London Scottish RFC with 84 points. Messrs Quantrill, Daws, Stirling & Anne Third went home with a Ram International rugby ball for their club and Wooden Spoon’s new Callaway feather bag each for themselves.

The top three teams qualified for the Regional Final at John O’Gaunt GC on Monday 29 September together with Banbury, Civil Service, St Nicholas Old Boys & Tadley Team 1.

Chris Mellor of London Wasps carried off the case of Laithwaites wine in the raffle.
