Results from the Qualifier at Chipping Sodbury GC on Thursday 8th May 2008

The sun shone brightly on the lovely setting of Chipping Sodbury GC for the West Country qualifier. Chipping Sodbury RFC had suggested the course & all were rewarded with a wonderful venue and tough playing conditions, as a cooling breeze made playing conditions tough on the greens. However, all players enjoyed the day and we were pleased to welcome the Club Captain as one of the players in Chipping Sodbury’s 4 teams.

The player to hit the longest drive was Jason Heaven of Chipping Sodbury RFC. Nearest the Pin was won by Martin Gerrard of Chipping Sodbury RFC. The top scoring pair were Nigel Baker and David Wainwright of Stourbridge RFC with an excellent 44 points.

Third place on the day was taken by Ledbury RFC with 72 points. Second prize went to Worcester RFC Team 1 with 74 points and the winners were Stourbridge with 80 points. Messrs Baker, Wainwright, Wainwright & Edwards went home with a Ram International rugby ball for their club and Wooden Spoon’s new Callaway feather bag each for themselves.

The top three teams qualified for the Regional Final at The Park GC on Thursday 25 September together with Chipping Sodbury Teams 1,2 & 4 and Worcester Team 3.

Nigel Baker carried off the case of Laithwaites wine in the raffle, rounding off a very good day for the Stourbridge man.
